I (finally!) upgraded the iMac here to Tiger. Spotlight is indexing right now, and Software Update is running to get those patches for 10.4.2.
This a reminder that we should upgrade our other machines as well, assuming we have the licenses.

Haven’t noticed any difficulties over the last few days with the upgrade to Tiger on my PowerBook except for the smb remote mount to icess.

Have you updated to 10.4.2 yet? The download page mentions a fix for SMB file sharing services.

Karen’s machine has 10.4.2, yet still has mounting problems with ICESS (right Karen?). I have a strange quirk on my machine as well. When I ssh into iocean, I need to type the full domain:ssh iocean.ucsd.edu. Before I could get away with typing just iocean. I suspect I need to reconfigure my network settings. Any ideas?

Regarding networking settings: right - under the Network panel in System Preferences, check your Ethernet/Airport settings. The Search Domains field should be set to ucsd.edu. I believe this is what tells the computer to resolve all domain-less hosts as host.ucsd.edu.
As far the the samba mounting problems, I don’t think Karen is alone - google shows other people out there having the same issue. Karen, can you connect to coast via smb? This could help to narrow down the issue. Also, what is the specific error message you get when trying to connect to ICESS?

Thanks Mason,
Setting the Search Domains field did the trick!
We’ll further investigate Karen’s dilemma…
