The Ocean Informatics Exchange Initiative encourages collaborative practices through the exchange of applications, community strategies, as well as projects designed and implemented for local use.

All current local projects are designed using MySQL storage backends with PHP access code, serving as our local API development model. In addition, adding accessibility through web service interfaces to applicable APIs has most recently become an important local design consideration.

Together with code sharing, two other organizational features facilitate exchange: documentation through the Exchange Intitiative Documentation center and a common API Test Console for previewing functionality and development testing.
