Basic searching

dataset_search_form_a.png

  • Title: The title of the dataset
  • Keyword(s): A set of keywords associated with a dataset.
  • Date Begin: The lower (inclusive) bound of the range of data.
  • Date End: The upper (inclusive) bound of the range of data.

These fields allow for basic searching by time or title, as well as keywords that have been associated with a dataset. Specifying date-time ranges results in datasets that contain data falling within that range.

Additional parameters

categories

Below the basic form are additional search fields for limiting your results. Click on the header categories to open the form section. In the selection dropdown menu are category - subcategory pairs. Each column of a dataset is categorized at these two levels. Selecting biological - plant OR biological - organicCompound will limit your search to only datasets that have at least one column categorized as either biological - plant or biological - organicCompound. See [1] for how a series of category filters is evaluated.

attributes

Clicking on the attributes header will open another form section for filtering your results by attributes. Much additional metadata is stored at the attribute level in addition to providing a dataset column with a basic definition and unit of measurement. Filtering by attributes provides a more granular level of data comparison beyond column categories. Filters are added in exactly the same way as categories and are evaluated according to [1].

[1] Filter evaluaton:

  • #: Selected item
  • O: Logical operator

((( 1 O 2 ) O 3 ) O 4 ) ...

Once you've found the dataset you're interested in, clicking on the title will bring you to a more detailed interface to the data. The next section goes into more detail on using this interface.
